Top 5 Famous Chili Restaurants in the US

Ordering Chili Out is very hit or miss. Is there any way to tell whether the chili you’re gonna get is any good?

What we need (us big chili aficionados) is to be able to check the reviews on the chili wherever we go. Possibly even a chili locator?

Therfore, it will be a new goal of mine to have a review of all of the restaurants out there that focus their menu around chili. I should also include or are “famous” for their chili, or even chain restaurants that sell Chili nationwide (think Steak ‘n’ Shake, Chili’s, Wendy’s).

Top 5 Famous Chili Restaurants

In no particular order:

  • Skyline Chili, Cincinnati, OH (and many other places)
  • Real Chili, Milwaukee, WI
  • Dixon’s Famous Chili, Independence, Missouri
  • Bens Chili Bowl, Washington, D.C.
  • Petro’s Chili, Knoxville TN

Skyline Chili, locations across the United States, started in Cincinnati, Ohio. I’ve had Skyline a number of times, in their restaurant, out of a can, and have made a decent replica of it occasionally as well. I can’t say I’m a believer of allspice in Chili, but I don’t mind a little cinnamon. Personally, I wouldn’t go out of my way for it, unless you are in the mood for a lot of spaghetti and cheese.

Real Chili, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. https://www.realchilimilwaukee.com

Not a Chili that i’ve tried yet, but this one is going straight to the top of the list. Can’t wait to get a review of this chili landmark on the site.

Dixon’s Famous Chili, Independence, Missouri. Looks like it’s right outside of Kansas City. Road trip!

Ben’s Chili Bowl, locations in the Washington, D.C. area. Started in Washington, D.C.. This is one famous bowl of chili that I have partaken! It was at a Washington Nationals game where they have a location. Even over 10 years ago, I remember it being a somehat spicy (although not hot) and very thick bowl with no beans. Dark red, almost brown color, great on franks and fries, a little underwhelming straight out of the bowl.

5. Petro’s, locations across Tennessee. Started in Knoxville Tennessee. https://www.petros.com/menu

Does anyone out there have a famous chili restaurant, chili food truck, hole in the wall, or chili taqueria that the world should know about?
