No one wants to make chili in the summertime.
People tell me that all of the time. My Mom, my beautiful girlfriend, my kids, every random person on the street or at a farmer’s market. Why is that?
“It’s too HOT for chili.” “Chili is something I eat when it’s cold outside.” “Chili warms me up, and I’m already hot enough.” “Chili is heavy and I like to eat light in the summer.”
But, we all eat other food that is hot in the summer, right? We literally start fires on the hottest days of the year. We cook burgers, hot dogs, brats, chicken, and pizza. We all eat them hot. We sit around fires at night to catch marshmallows on fire and melt the chocolate on our smores. Grab a Popsicle or bowl of ice cream after? Of course!
Every time someone repeats one of these silly excuses, I have to remind myself. That’s what they say because everyone says it!
What if I grill the meat that I put in the chili? How about smoking a Boston Butt for 10 hours? Then, pull the pork. Finally, add it to a bowl of chili. Sounds like we are talking about BBQ and Cookouts, and everyone knows that’s 100% summer! So that’s what I’m going to do – make a perfect summer chili.
I”ll update here when I start grilling the meat this weekend.
